My wife and I just returned from a fantastic vacation. We're both avid scuba divers and have dreamed of one day enjoying some Caribbean Diving. We checked out the various dive locations and finally selected Belize as our destination. We chatted with some of our friends who also dive and who had stayed at various
Belize Resorts. They recommended that we stay at Turneffe Flats at the Turneffe Atoll. We took their advice and are so glad we did. We signed up for one of their combination Fishing & Diving packages.
From the first day, we knew that we had made the best choice of resort. They have everything we could have desired to do,
scuba diving, snorkeling, fly fishing, and much more. Their facilities and staff were top notch. Our room had a spectacular view that looked out over the water. It was like we had gone to paradise. We actually didn't wish to come home.
We started out with our dive part of our package. Everywhere we went was spectacular but I did have a few favorite dive spots. I really enjoyed the day trip to The Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye, and Long Caye. For all you divers out there, you'll know that The Blue Hole is where where Jacques Cousteau visited a lot in the early 70's and it has become Belize's most famous dive site. I now know why; it was everything I had seen and hoped for. The clarity of the water is beyond compare. Turneffe Flats can rent you the basic equipment but you'll want to remember to bring your personal mask, fins, snorkel etc. There is a list of what you'll need online:

After a few days of diving, we decided to try our hand at fly fishing. Our friends told us that fly fishing in Belize is a don't-miss opportunity. So we tried it and wow, were they right. All of their guides are first class. We went with Winston "Pops" Cabral. He's been there since 1987. If there is fish to be caught, they know where they are and how to get them on your line. They're experienced at making novices like us feel comfortable with the gear and what to do. You have your choice of bonefishing, permit fishing, as well as tarpon fishing. I liked the idea that it was catch and release. By the way, if you don't have your personal fishing gear, you can rent everything you'll need.
I highly recommend Turneffe Flats to anyone attempting to experience the very best in scuba diving and feel what it's like to go fishing with the experts. We came back with tons of pictures and life long memories. We can't wait to go back.
